Health and medical care relies heavily on data for decision-making and continuing education for improved delivery of services. However, often health centers are not equipped with the basic infrastructures required to sustain regular access to essential information and reporting is paper-based.

AED-SATELLIFE, in collaboration with its partners in Uganda and Mozambique, has developed a set of tools to enable low cost data exchange over existing cellular networks. Health workers are equipped with hand-held computers that enable them to complete multiple forms each week and to store and retrieve continuing education content and treatment guidelines.

The African Access Point, shared by multiple sites, enables large amounts of data to be stored and transferred between the rural health centers and a central server to expedite reporting and to provide health care workers with email and other communication.
