Session: Freedom Fone: Mobile and Radio for Independent Media
Description
Freedom Fone is a project that explores the convergence of mobile phones and radio. Currently in its pilot phase it involves a technology that builds on existing Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems to help human rights and development organisations make information more accessible to their audiences. Freedom Fone was recently selected as a Knight News Winner which gives us the opportunity to further develop the Freedom Fone technology and to implement it in a range of deployments across Africa.
This session will introduce participants to the Freedom Fone concept and technology and engages them in a short interactive brainstorming session to explore how Freedom Fone might be of interest to them, where they would like to see it applied and the challenges they would anticipate in implementing the service in different contexts.
