Session: Open Rosa mHealth in Tanzania
Description
We will present several emerging mobile health applications in Tanzania from members of the OpenROSA consortium. We will describe open source software for health workers that puts easy-to-use guidelines for diagnosis and treatment on PDAs or phones.

We will discuss three projects:
1. HIV screening: We are piloting a system in HIV care and treatment clinics that enables lay counselors to screen patients on treatment for AIDS during routine visits.
2. e-IMCI, a mobile health application to guide clinicians step by step through the widely used IMCI protocols for child health. These protocols determine how to classify and treat the most common causes of child mortality including diarrhea pneumonia and malaria.
3. CommCare,a phone-based application to support community health workers in their daily activities such as household visits, data collection, management of follow-ups, andhealth protocols.

The presenters are affiliated with D-Tree International.

Great project
Very useful presentation, and what looks like a fantastic project. Key to me is how careful the developers have been to study what community healthcare workers are currently doing. The mobile technology is being used to streamline the existing paper solutions, instead of requiring the workers to change their behaviour. I think this is really key for successful uptake.
