Future of Web Apps (FOWA)
Note by Phil Wilson:
280 North, 280 slides http://280slides.com/
web vs desktop is like DVD vs VHS
transitional technologies are like canaries in coalmines - it means the transition is ending, not beginning. why would you use thunderbird when your net connection never actually goes down?
the web is ready for these desktop style apps. the hardest thing is writing them. the existing tools are good, but the web is a broad spectrum from static apps to lots of hyperlinsk, to amazon which is a mix to google maps. most toolsets are for writing apps in the middle, not the equivalent of desktop apps.
most praise for 280slides is praise for cappuccino. write the framework in the same way you'd use desktop libraries, call them, import them for certain functionality. why do you need to think about autosave?
cappuccino APIs for writing web apps portable to iphone sdk are the same.
desktop or web? if you're not on the web you better start moving because your app has an expiration date

- does valid html doesn't exist any more? is the day of view soruce over with these kinds of frameworks? I guess HTML5 is supposed to help save this.
